Stabilization techniques

Capillary preservation (reindeer moss): This technique is done by immersing the roots or base of the plant in a specially formulated preservation liquid, which usually contains glycerin, water, food coloring, and essential nutrients. The plant absorbs the liquid by capillary action, replacing the original sap, and then dries for 24 hours to achieve optimal results. This method is particularly suitable for plants that need to maintain their original color and form, such as tonic herbs.

Double-immersion preservation (flowers): This is a more complex two-step method in which fresh flowers are first dehydrated by placing them in a solution of pure alcohol, and subsequently rehydrated by transferring them to a solution containing propylene glycol, glycerin and food coloring. This method requires a certain selection of flowers, is not suitable for all varieties, and preservation is not usually done together with the stems.

Stabilization by immersion

For plants that have been dried, they can be preserved by immersion, i.e., by completely submerging them in a solution of glycerin, water and food coloring, which sometimes needs to be preheated to about 40°C in order to better penetrate the plant tissues. After completing the immersion, the plants are washed and dried. It is worth noting that in the case of special plants such as lichens, soaking in salt water not only preserves their form, but also has a non-flammable and insect-resistant effect.

Spray stabilization (moss)

Spray stabilization is a particularly suitable method of preservation for reindeer mosses. By spraying a solution containing glycerin, water and food coloring directly onto the artificial moss for plant, it not only dries quickly, but also effectively maintains the preserved moss wall's color and form. This method is especially suitable for flat or bulbous moss species, which is simple and effective.

As technology advances, the field of plant preservation is constantly exploring new possibilities. Currently, researchers are trying to combine various preservation techniques in order to obtain better preservation results. For example, a new technique for preserving plants using carbon dioxide pressure is under development, which is expected to further enhance the safety and efficiency of preservation while maintaining the original characteristics of plants. In the future, with the emergence of more innovative technologies, the field of plant preservation will become more colorful and provide more diversified choices for plant enthusiasts and professionals.
