The Origin and Evolution of Fake Turf Grass
The birth and evolution of faux grass is a story of innovation and improvement.

Origins
The early development of synthetic turf dates back to the 1960s, when ChemGrass (later known as Astroturf®), developed by Monsanto, was installed at Houston's Astrodome. This early artificial turf was made of a dense, short-fiber nylon carpet that was durable but lacked the look and feel of natural grass.
First Generation of Artificial Turf (1960s - 1970s)
The first generation of artificial turf, known as Astroturf, was popular for its durability and low maintenance, but was also criticized for its hard and rough surface, which increased the risk of injury to athletes.
Second Generation of Artificial Turf (1980s - 1990s)
The second generation of artificial turf was invented in 1976 by Frederick T. Haas and consisted of adding a shock-absorbing pad under the carpet and using longer fibers. The fibers of these turfs were filled with quartz sand to keep the fibers upright, improving shock absorption and reducing the risk of injury to athletes.
Third Generation Artificial Turf (1990s - Present)
The third generation of artificial turf introduced an infill system using materials such as rubber granules or a mixture of rubber granules and quartz sand. This type of turf was first installed by FieldTurf in 1997 and offers improved athletic performance and safety.
Advances in Materials and Technology
The materials and technology used in aartificial lawn have advanced significantly over time. Fibers have become longer and softer, often made of polyethylene, nylon or polypropylene. The height of the fibers in modern turf can vary from 40 to 70 mm, providing better sports performance and a more natural feel
The future.
Future Outlook
As technology continues to advance, the future of fake turf looks very bright. More innovative developments are expected, whether in terms of materials, manufacturing techniques or environmental sustainability.
