The Birth of Football Field Grass

 

Ever wondered how the natural-looking, delicate touch of artificial soccer turf is transformed from ordinary plastic into a beautiful patch of green? It all starts with two types of plastic pellets - white substrate pellets and green pellets containing colors, UV stabilizers and various additives

The pellets are first melted in a heating machine and then extruded through a special perforated steel plate. The straw-like plastic is extruded through the tiny holes in the steel plate and falls into a cooling water bath, where it quickly solidifies. Next, a robotic arm pulls the first-formed strands of grass onto a series of large rollers, ensuring that each strand remains separate and untangled. As the filaments are stretched, they gradually become so thin and soft that they almost resemble real blades of grass. Once stretched, the grass filaments are wound onto a bobbin, and when the bobbin is full, the different colors of the grass filaments are woven together to form a bundle of synthetic yarn.

 

These synthetic yarns are then combined with a special backing cloth. The backing acts as the skin of the artificial sport turf, while the synthetic yarns are precisely sewn into the backing by means of a tufting machine, a "giant sewing machine". The tufting machine is equipped with more than 200 needles, which efficiently and accurately hold the yarns in place. At the same time, cutting knives at the bottom trim the excess yarns to give it the appearance of natural grass blades.

In order to enhance the structural stability of the synthetic turf soccer field, the backing fabric requires special treatment. It is sent under the adhesive coating rollers to receive a layer of adhesive. This layer of adhesive not only holds the grass strands firmly to the backing fabric, but also provides additional waterproofing for the entire artificial football turf. The fake grass for football then goes through a drying process in both open and confined spaces to ensure the adhesive is fully cured. The final step is to utilize high temperature needles to create drainage holes in the surface of the lawn to ensure that rainwater can drain smoothly without affecting the lawn's experience.

 

After undergoing rigorous quality testing, including fiber length measurement and fine trimming of the edges, the artificial turf was subjected to a special test - the durability test. During the test, simulated soccer shoes will repeatedly step on the grass to verify that it is strong enough to withstand the pressures of daily use.
